Dear Maje

Holiday is in the air and this is usually the time where we catch up with our dear family, colleagues and friends. Being an adult is sometimes exhausting so if we have time to recuperate our soul might as well belly up to our favorite people.

Since most of my friends are working it's really hard to gather them in one place and in one sitting, so here are my techniques on how I normally gather my barkada to a "barkada night".

TIP NO. 1 CALL A FRIEND

Call your friends one by one and make an advance notice. Yup you read it right, advance notice because maybe they have plans for that day, I usually ask them if they are free on that day or not.

TIP NO. 2 THE RESTAURANT

Since we are all adults we need a place to hangout and when I say hangout it means good food and cocktails is on our list, luckily I discovered this place called TKB by Tanduay in Ayala Ave., Makati City.

TKB stands for The Kushi Bar, and it specializes in kushi (skewered) selections created by Japanese chef Yuri Amami, the first female Japanese chef in the Philippines. Here, you’ll also find the TKB shots, deliciously-flavored cocktails infused with Tan-duay Dark and Premium White Rum.

What's cool with this restaurant is that diners can enjoy their cocktails along with their kushi selections, which now have items using ingredients that are popular with Filipino diners. So, don’t be surprised to find the Gyubara (beef tenderloin) along with the Reba (chicken liver) or the Hotate (scallop) along with the Hatsu (chicken heart) on the menu. All reasonably priced, these kushi selections are meant to be enjoyed plate after plate, just like how Filipinos dine.

TIP NO. 3 THE DATE

Set a date. Christmas season is perfect for a get-together since everybody is in Christmas spirit and Christmas Break I normally choose for a Saturday Night. Also, I heard that for the entire month of December, TKB by Tanduay offers a free flight (four shots) for diners of five. It's a win-win situation right?

The TKB shots selection includes the Aomori (apple wasabi), Tokushima (ginger cala-mansi), Kumamoto (watermelon basil), Miyazaki (cucumber basil), Nagano (lemon apricot), Ehime (green apple and kiwi), and their newly-introduced rambutan rum-infused shot.

TIP NO. 4 USE THE MAGIC WORD

This is the highly effective, the game changer (ika nga) are you ready? tell them "libre kita" (I'll pay for you). Nobody will resist on that one hahaha

And yeah, hope you find this article helpful ahahaha ohh if you plan to visit TKB by Tanduay don't forget to take a #Groupie using the Hashtags #TKBByTanduaySocial #Tanduay #TanduayNumber1Rhum

Talk to you next year!

It's that time of the year again where we celebrate another festive season, while others go the beach to celebrate holidays here I'm celebrating it in Kawit, Cavite. Kawit in Cavite is not new place to me (I thought) since elementary, Aguinaldo shrine is always one of our itinerary during our field trip. But there is so much more places in Kawit that we need to discover not just the Aguinaldo shrine. So buckle up your seatbelt as I take you to some of the most sought-after historical places in Kawit.

Our first stop: MUSEO NI BALDOMERO AGUINALDO

Baldomero Aguinaldo is the one of Emilio Aguinaldo's trusted people / cousin who is also a revolutionary leader. Aguinaldo organized, along with his cousin Emilio, the Magdalo chapter of the Katipunan in Kawit. He became president of the council. In the early days of hostilities, he always stayed at the side of his cousin Emilio. He fought in several bloody battles. He also led the Magdalo faction to the Katipunan which had its headquarters in Kawit, Cavite. His grandfather is Cesar Virata, former prime minister during 1980s.

Next Stop: EMILIO AGUINALDO SHRINE

As we all know this is where the Philippine flag that we know of today was first waved publicly announcing our Independence by none other than the first Filipino President Emilio Aguinaldo.

Kawit also boasts rich crafts and delicacies including the Pandayan or the local blacksmithing shop.

Third stop: PANDAYAN

We went to their local Pandayan (blacksmith), it is still active and you can still buy handcrafted knives and bolos made the same way during the Revolutionary era. Blacksmithing is an endangered craft that needs to be promoted and preserved.

Fourth stop: BISUGO EATERY PUTO BUNGBONG

What is Christmas if we won't be eating Christmas Food di ba? Charls (fun fact actually: this is the first time that I will try this puti bungbong hahaha) so we went to Bisugo Eatery to experience that here. In just P30 you got yourself a puto bungbong or rice cake with shaved coconut and muscovado sugar also you need to pair it with their local tea. And in all fairness the sweetness of puto bungbong blends well with the tea (tanggal umay ika nga).

Last Stop: THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTING EVENT AT AGUINALDO SHRINE AND FREEDOM PARK

The Christmas lighting event was held last December 14, 2019 and a number of distinguished guests and celebrities joined in celebration of the event. A fireworks display and lighting of the Christmas lights at the Freedom park was also held.

Make sure to visit Kawit Cavite this Christmas Season and enjoy the season filled with pride of our own heritage and historical sites in Kawit. The Municipality of Kawit welcomes everyone who wishes to visit Kawit during the Christmas season.

BTW, I do have a vlog of this so you can check that out, link at the top of this post.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in XentroMall Antipolo as it opens their intricate Christmas designs,  magical display of lights and sounds to the public. On its second year, XentroMall Antipolo promises to be brighter and even merrier!

For XentroMall Antipolo and its founders, Alexander and Adelaida Cruz, family is the main inspiration for this year's Christmas lights design. In fact, the whole idea turning the said mall into a fun-filled family Christmas experience originated from their family’s famous Cainta Christmas House.

“We intend to give everyone a reason to smile and feel the spirit of Christmas without spending too much because Xentro Christmas Mall is free for everyone. We hope to bring families together, to come up with a place where they could have fun and create unforgettable memories with their family that would last a lifetime,” said Alex Cruz.

In 2018, XentroMall Antipolo opened its doors and welcomed swaths of families into a magical Christmas village. Complete with elaborately designed village ornaments, train sets, merry-go-rounds, and carousels.

“As we opened XentroMall Antipolo, we wanted to spread the festive cheer to even more people and this inspired us to create a Christmas-themed mall, where families can bond, celebrate, and create lasting memories together.” According to Cruz.

The christmas lights display is now open at the XentroMall in Antipolo, Rizal and will be on display until end of January 2020.

Follow @XentroMallAntipolo on Facebook for more updates.

You know yuletide season is approaching when a lot of cafes and restaurant started to open their Christmas lights, change the entire decor to a Chrismassy one and launch their Christmas Menus, with that being said Froggy and I got invited to taste test the Nitro 7's Holiday drinks last week.

I've been seeing a lot of Nitro 7 coffee and tea cafes here and there but frankly speaking, I haven't had any experience to dine in until today. So what I know about Nitro 7 is that their famous drink is Black Nitro which is made of cold-brewed and infused with nitrogen gas, making it less acidic and ideal for people who suffer from acidity or Gastroesophageal reflux disease also known as GERD.

Now let's talk about the holiday drinks, the said cafe have 3 new flavors to choose from they are as follows:

Chocolate Berry Snow (P175)

For those people who are not into coffee this first drink is for you! This drink is milk-based so perfect if you have a sweet tooth like me.

Magical Cherry Mocha (P155)

This second drink is coffee-based drink, flavored with chocolate and cherry, topped with whipped cream, and drizzle with chocolate and candied cherry. This drink is perfect for coffee lovers out there.

Orange Joy Milk Tea (P120)

Milktea lovers you may now rejoice because Nitro 7 didn't forget you guys. If you are adventurous and wanna taste something different try this Orangey-Milktea Flavor. When I first taste this one I must say there's a sugar rush but as my taste buds adjust to it, I find it addicting and I want more.

Aside from drinks you may enjoy also their freshly baked pastries, BTW, I really love how affordable and walang tapon sa menus nila. All of it was appetizing, food for you wallet and the eyes, so I highly recommend this cafe.

Check them out!

When I was younger, my cousins and I used to sleep over at grandma's house. She will prepare our beds and give us a bed time stories, our favorite will be stories about supernatural creatures like Nuno sa punso (dwarf), Duwende (Elf), Tikbalang (Filipino Centaur) and mermaids. And as a kid, we used to believe it was true. But as we grow older we tend to forget about them.

We, Filipinos, do have a lot of folklore and Tipsy Tales used that to create an immersive theater show.

OK! you guys know that I really love watching theatrical shows, I've done and written a theater play too back when I was in college, so I know how hard it is to come up with an original play.

Tipsy Tales created a show called LAMBANA, unlike with other theater play this one is immersive meaning you are part of the play. You are also going to participate by showcasing your acting skills but it doesn't end with that. Think of it as if you are entering an escape room, wherein your every decision affects the whole story. Sounds exciting right?

RATING BASE ON OUR EXPERIENCE:

Settings & Costume Designs: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kudos to the propsman, set design, make-up artist, they really make sure that every rooms that you will enter is really different from the other.

LIGHTS & SOUNDS:  ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It really sets up the mood especially in the beginning. Yet, I have to suggest aside from flickering lights, add parcan lights during the fight scene to add drama so that we can fully appreciate the casting spells of the actors.

ACTORS: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Superb acting!
We actually choose the English version of this play (There's two version tagalog and English) and we enjoyed it, how far if it is tagalog? baka di na kami umalis sa Lambana haha
Well modulated for the voice and good diction. You will give your best acting skills here because their acting will convince you to act also.

STORY: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Since it was you who are deciding how the story flows, it was indeed a great concept. There's also a moral lesson here so it's perfect for family and friends.

OVERALL RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5 / 5

For 75 minutes, this theater show will give you a unique experience to wander to a place only exist in your grandmother's story and together with your anxiousness, curiosity and adrenaline it was a play you should  explore.

P.S
They told me that they are now writing their second play but this show will be more matured. Another play we shouldn't miss.

Ticket price: 1,199 php. (Nov.15 - Dec. 30 2019)
Time: 1:30p - 8:30p
Venue: 4F Eastwood City Mall, Quezon City, Manila

One of my biggest insecurity back when I was in college was my acne. I get tease because I don't fit to the society's standard of beauty. I even heard my blockmate saying "Maganda sana sya kung wala lang syang pimples." referring to me. I know this is a fucked-up statement right? but the younger me learned the art of ignoring. I learned that you really don't have to respond in anything that you hear because they will stop eventually once they notice that you are not paying attention to them. Aside from ignoring, I also invest my time in make-up. I tried to conceal all my imperfection but honestly speaking I did not succeed because once I wipe my make-up my acne was still there and getting worst. My mom noticed that my face is getting worst so she introduced me to the world of beauty wellness, had my first facial then we went to different acne treatment but none of it cure my acne until we tried dermcare.

With the help of dermcare acne kit products plus every 2 weeks of pimple acne treatment facial with seaweed masks my skin gets better in no less than 6 months. No more acne for me. Ofcourse I do still have some occasional pimple every time-of-the-month but not as worst when I was studying. I actually recommend it to my friends who are suffering also from acne.

That is my Kwentong Pilipina. How about you what's yours?

Speaking of Kwentong Pilipina, Dermcare launch this digital platform that was made to empower Filipinas, you can actually share your own stories, piece of advice and ask questions about health, career, women's right, beauty, lifestyle, and other relevant content. Recently, Froggy and I had a chance to go to the premiere night of The Art Of Ligaw, starring KZ Tandingan and Epy Quizon. As a cinephilia (a term used for those people who are passionate when it comes to film), my heart tickles with this kind of events.

Let's talk about why you should consider watching The Art Of Ligaw.

I have here some bullet ideas of the things we need to discuss.

A. Casting
  • KZ Tandingan
  1. The way she portray the role is very authentic.
  2. Surprisingly, the role suits to her (not to mention that this is her first movie, it seems like she's been doing it for ages.) Imagine ganun sya kagaling!
  3. I think if you give her more acting workshop especially on heavy scene, she'll nail it.
  4. I really can see future with KZ when it comes to acting. Pasabog sya Sis!
  • Epy quizon
  1. OK, we all know how great Epy as an actor, but after watching this film you'll say p*tch@ ang gwapo pala nya.

B. Scene

  • There's no million dollar shot in this film yet you'll be mesmerize on how beautiful Davao is.

C. Costume Design
  • Infairness, KZ's wardrobe is fashionable same thing with Epy, he has this millennial look that makes him looked 20 years younger.

D. Story

  • The story talks about courtship and how you get lost to it.
  • It is timely
  • Every words were relatable.
  • All of the songs were catchy (You can listen all of the songs in Spotify)
  • There is a moral lesson afterall.

Rating:

For me I'll give this movie a 9/10 stars. Because I think they can still find a better camera angle but nonetheless I will definitely watch this movie again and again and again.

For my readers, please watch this movie showing on Nov. 13 nationwide. Let's all support Local and Independent films.
